Street photography during the Edinburgh Festival - 10th August 2013. A small group of students and I met at the foot of the Mound and from there took photographs around the Gallery precinct, Princes Street Gardens and the High Street (Royal Mile). I have posted a selection of images that I took, though I don't wish to infer that they are great photographs just because I took them or have posted them. The idea here is for students to have an idea as to how I may think, what I look for and compare/discuss/critque my work and theirs. To get an idea as to the number of photos I took, I have about 169 pictures to choose from and feel that these few work the best. Many photographs are repetitions,or slight differences of angle, and, as with most Street Photography, there is a great deal of wasted shots. I have posted a few with one version black and white and the other colour, to show how colour can affect/detract, or not, from the shot. All the photographs are as framed and shot with a 18-35mm lens on a full-frame digital slr.
Inchcolm Island July 2013. These are some photos I took on the day a few students went out to the Island of Inchcolm in the Firth of Forth. The first three just show different angles of the Abbey from essentially the same view point, which is why I always say take more than one photo - in this case portrait/landscape and a change of standpoint - therefore giving you the option later to choose your favourite. All photos were shot on a Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro lens. All were hand held. All but one photo is shot in Raw file. In total I took 40 or so shots, many of which were slight variations form what you see here. My personal favourite photograph is the last one of the set (the three ladies in black & White on a seat).
